Vintage yamaha yb100 info (resto started)

Hi there.havent been on here much lately, mainly because i dont have any trials bikes at the moment....

But i have been playing with bikes, and in particular, restoreing old ones.

i bought this one of ebay this week, its from what i can work out, a 70 model, YB100.

Just wondering if any members here know much about them, or know of any laying around, or for sale, or any parts available...

i plan to restore it to concorse condition...ive already got it runing, and as soon as i replace the clutch cable and get it rideable, ill be starting the resto....

here is the TY250 i restored a while ago for those that havent seen......ever since i did this bike i have been very keen to restore old bikes, and i realy regret selling it.
Hopeing to find another TY to restore again one day.

I noticed at the Sydney Motorcycle Show tthis year hat there were a varied and eclectic collection of bikes simmilar to this one on display.
There was a club Vintage Japanese(?) or simmilar by name having a display of bikes in front of the SMC pavillion.
Perhaps a search of clubs in your area might solve a couple of your riddles.

ah yep, it was the vintage japanese motorcycle club.

They had some great bikes there, even two rotary engine bikes, a suzuki RE5,and a sachs hercules....

Just a quick word of warning. Don't try any trials on the yb100. I had one years ago and snapped the frame from pulling monos/wheeelies. I welded it up but it was never the same again.( I think no down tube in the frame is the weakness)

I had forgotten about the Hercules Wankel. That graphic on the back of the seat is priceless. Imagine something like that nowadays:

I think the Wankel bit comes from the name of the German dude who invented the rotary engine - poor bastard.
Mazda bought the rights to make the Wankel engine and they are still being made today for the Mazda RX8. OS made a Wankel cycle model aircraft engine and I think there was a Wankel cycle outboard motor too.
When I was an apprentice I worked in Maintenance at South Bris TAFE college and that is where the apprentice Motorcycle Mechanics did their block release training at the time. Every year the Suzuki RE5 they had as a training bike was completely stripped down and reassembled as a training exercise. I never actually saw it running but I saw lots of attempts at getting it going. The bike had been donated the TAFE college by Mayfairs the Suzuki distrubutor (maybe because no-one wanted to buy it).

Just an observation ( or my eyes are playing tricks), when I scroll down the page on the third picture of the hurcules Wankel ( love that name) it looks as though the fan is actualy running. Does anyone else get this efect.

spent the last few days striping the bike in preparation for the resto.

just waiting for the sand blaster to reopen for the year so i can get the frame done, and the chromer to reopen, so i can get all the chrome parts dechromed, so i can file finish and repair the dents in them.

Engine off the bike. will be geting new rings, and every new gasket available......








some new parts ive bought so far.
New seat, not genuine, but dam good. 50 bucks, is cheaper than geting my one retrimed, and its also all rusted out underneath...im very happy with this seat...test fitted here...




and a new blinker switch....im looking for the left side at the moment...i also scored a new battery tie in strap for it, genuine yamaha, and have new clutch and chokje cable on the way.....




will post some more pics ina few weeks, once the frame is sand blasted and painted, and a little progress is hapening....

My front headlight and blinker mounts were bent, from a crash the bike must have had early in its life.





So i drilled out the spot welds, unpicked them and straightened them up before welding them back on.

I havent forgoten about this bike...i still have it and will be getting into it as soon as i finish my car im restoreing....
here it is sitting on its stand i made for it, to make it easier to work on when refitting the suspension and wheels...



We also worked out through yamaha, that its a 1968 model

i got new brake and clutch cables for it the other day, new genuine yamaha....

will start back to work on it next year after the car is done.
