Gday All, Chasing some info please, I've just got hold of an early SWM 320, 78/79 model I think & need to know the correct fuel mixture. I think it will run a bit better with fresh fuel the stuff thats in it at the moment makes your eyes water !

I have a 1982 SWM TL 320, I run it at 50:1 on full synthetic shell oil. To be honest this still seems a bit rich.

Depending on how you ride the bike eg Trials + occasional trail ridding or just dedicated Trials ridding it can be run as lean as 75 or 80:1 for Trials only, using quality mordern oils.

My 08 Gasser is running on Moutl 510 @ 75:1 as the dealer suggested semi-synthetic oil may burn easier, leaving less carbon or unburnt oil residue. He also suggested going even leaner then 80:1.

I have run with no problems a kt 250/ty 175/ ty250 and many water cooled bike's on 80:1 with motul 800 the old man run's his tyz on 100:1 with no problem's

Thanks for the info, I tried it at 60:1 and it seems to run fine, for a bike that hasn't run for a
couple of years anyway. It blows a small amount of smoke so I know its getting lubricated.
All I've I got to do now is pretty it up a bit as I hope to ride it at the Nationals this year.

I also need to know the amount of oil to put in the gearbox & front forks I know I'm pushing my luck but someone must know.

The forks on the SWM should be the same as what is on a similar vintage sherpa T, as they used the same forks. Contact Peter Schronen at Bultaco Parts VIC he should be able to tell you or try Don Newelle in QLD.

For the gear oil, it has an inspection hole on the engine case, oil should just trickle out when it is at the correct level with the bike stood upright. Just drain the old oil then refill it until oil runs out of the inspection hole.

Depends on the vintage Sharvie. Early SWMs came fitted with Marzocchis and changed to Betors in about '83.

If they're Betors try 190ml of SAE 10 in each leg
