I'm so proud of Darcy I'm posting this photo. We've had this TY80 for a year or so now, waiting for Darcy or his big sister to be game enough to ride it. Preparations yesterday for the local trial today was enough motivation for Darcy to have a go on the TY80 at home. Despite his diminutive size, he took to it like a duck to water, only having problems when it came time to stop.
I guess it is finally time to make a new name board to replace the one with the previous owner's name.

Nice one,
How old would Darcy be,and what bike if any has he ridden before?
My kids have a KDX50 which I chose at the time for the foot rear brake.

Russ, Darcy has just turned eight, but is tiny for his age due to health issues. He is 18kg and about as tall as an average 6 year old.
He is very good on his bicycles and is proficient on his OSET 16.0 and Yamaha PW50. He's been riding the OSET and the PW50 for a bit over a year.
He didn't seem to have any problems adapting to the foot brake and manual clutch on the TY.

He looks like a real trials rider. You are right to be proud.

Go Darcy!
What a cool bike, I am bias as the TY80 was my first trials bike, too.
Bet your Dad & Mum are just about bursting, it has been a tough road for you but that's what makes great trials riders!
Catch ya!
Bev
PS see if you can get Mum back on her bike for the Women's Cup, Master Women's Class!

David,
Great to see another TY80 out & about.
It took me right back to 1975 and my brand new TY80B (thanx Dad).
Hope your son gets as much fun out of his as I did from mine.

Wow Gary, that's a great photo of you on your TY80. We must be only a few years apart in age. They are quite an amazing little bike. One club trial last year my OSSA got a flat near the end of a trial and instead of fixing it I jumped on my kid's TY80 to finish. It handled my 95kg fine up and down some pretty serious terrain without even missing a beat.

Re: Kid photo - first ride on TY80
David,
I was at the ripe old age of twelve when Dad took that photo.
I rode that TY80 until I was 15 (I was a short asre kid) then I got a s/h TY175.
I used to be able to up set a lot of older riders with bigger bikes on my 80.
Thank God for Mick Andrews & Japs with some thought for kids.

Re: Kid photo - first ride on TY80
It's such a shame that there's so few smaller kid's trials bikes out there.
Back in the early 90's i had 2x TY80's. The first was a bit run down but i competed in a few trials with it around Canungra & Boonah in 94/95. Eventually another came up that was in immaculate condition so the first was sold and the cleaner bike was bought. I only competed in a few comps with the new ty80 because a few people made some nasty comments about me being too big for the bike. I guess i was winning too much
I then upgraded to a ty175 then onto a ty250 mono and then a 92' 327 Gas Gas (the white one)where my love with gas gas began... Man i'd love to know where those bikes are now. Anyone know where my 327 gas gas is? :)
My very very first bike was a Honda Z50, in immaculate condition that we bought from a farmer out near Boonah. Metal tank, 3sp auto clutch, I actually competed on it a few times in minibike. To this day i'm sad i sold it
cheers
