Suzuki RL250 photos from the 1970s

Post by David Lahey »

There has been a bit a resurgence of interest in Suzuki RL250s lately.

Here are two photos of Frank Hull on his RL from when they were new.

Nice pics Dave. Frank Hull, like all RL riders, was obviously a very intelligent individual! Did you notice the smile on the young spectators face in pic two? RL's tend to have that sort of an effect on people as they marvel at the undeniable beauty and superior engineering of the Suzuki product.

Wazza

You realy need to get out more and see what the rest of the world has to offer.

A fellow comes second in one 'C' Grade trial against a rider twice his age and he thinks his machinery makes him an expert!!!! :P :P :P

Starky and Wazza, you both rode well at Scrubby Creek, and once again the tightly knit riding team from Maryborough took away a big slice of the awards. I can see it will be high stakes at Brooweena. Do you reckon we can get a tote going on the outcome?

You know that young spectator smiling at Frank's RL250 may have been thinking something else entirely - but this is 2009 and this is my year of being kind to people who ride RL250s.

David we seems to have an over abundance of RL250s (2) here in Maryborough and I thought they were an endangered species not like the ever popular and extremely effective/efficient/brilliant TY175s. :P :P :P :P

I now know of 7 KTs here as well, Twinshock Heaven. =D>

Brooweena betting system - Open - 1st - Ben Reed on a restored KT250, 2nd- Jeff Eckert TL250 and if Steve Hall abstains from the evils of drink he will take his Ossa 250 to third.
Clubman 1st a tossup between John Flynn KT250 or Wazza RL250, Third could be me TY175. But as I think my wife maybe doing the scoring I could win outright or fail dismally depending on how nice I treat her for the two months leading up to the trial.
Novice I think could go to Connor Flynn TY175.

Now I think the above just maybe slanted to a Maryborough clean sweep. =D> However, you have got to watch Michael Armatige and Tony Bax if they turn up. #-o

Starky, don't worry about Tony, he won't have a pre-80 bike ready in time and Michael doesn't have a twinshock and despite offering him one to ride countless times, he remains a likely spectator.
Your pick sounds very Maryborough-centric. I reckon some of the Northerners (from Gladstone) will give Ben, Jeff and Steve a decent hurry-up in Open. Don't forget that those three will be on their "nostalgia" (old) bikes rather than their usual weaponry, although if Jeff rides one of his Yamahas he will be giving himself quite an advantage over his usual mount.
What's the next grade? Ah Clubman yes. Now you are talking dirty. Surely you should consider Angela and if Cedric rides that class, you local blokes will surely be blown into the weeds. Ha - I can't wait.
I'll go along with you about Connor on the TY175

David, I think you are selling yourself short as when your on your game you should at least be a contender for a position in Open.

Angela and Cedric definately have a good chance but I have to back my Team.

Dear, oh dear, oh dear! I don't know where to start. All I did was post a nice little paragraph about the outstanding qualities of the RL and it seems I've opened up a Pandoras Box of sorts! Ok, lets deal with this step-by-step shall we.

1. Starky, I do "get out". In fact I was "out" last Saturday picking up a TY175 that I bought off you for Dylan. (I will NEVER forgive myself. Suzuki, why did you only build one engine size?)

2. 1st or 2nd in clubmen! I can't believe you would belittle me in this manner Starky. I simply could not consider myself a man if I didn't ride OPEN.

3. Suck up to Helen all you want Stark-meister but I think your forgeting who the MQ LICENCED OFFICIAL is at Brooweena. (I drink Carlton Mid).

4. Starky-Warky, the words you used to describe the TY, did you come up with those all buy yourself or did Helen help you?

5. Yes Dave, Maryboroughians are VERY tight-knit. Almost scarily so. Can I just point out that I wasn't born or raised here.

Change to the other hand now Starkster.

6. A wager on the results for Brooweena '09? Count me in!!!

7. Sh*t! Is that the time! Goodnight.

Wazza,

Knowing how good your computer and typing skills are and the large number of more than two syllable words in your above post I take it that Grace wrote the post? :P
The time of night it was posted would indicate that she was home from work. Great post Grace your humor is excellent, pity Wazza is not up to your standard. :P :P

However I am happy to let you (Wazza) ride the Open line at Brooweena - less competition for me. My Trials goal is to peak in my 70's as a top 'C' grade rider. As you know I am well on track, I am 55 this year on 14.8.2009 just in case you want to swing by with a nice present. :D

Howdy Y'all,

You guys are getting too carried away with the whole riding aspect - the event to win will be the "show and shine".

I am putting my hand up for that one because the world is now a little of tilt due to the amount of powdercoating, chrome, ceramic coating and anodising now living in my shed.

PS - I might not actually ride in case I scratch my bike - sorry to upset your predictions Starky!

Cheers,
Your friendly neighbourhood KawiMan,
Scorps
