Here is a challenge for the people who were in the trials scene in Queensland in the 1980s. This publicity poster was recently unearthed by Rocky Trials Club long-term member Peter Dunn of Rockhampton.
Peter led the rejuvenation of the club in the mid 1980s after being involved in riding trials up here since the early 1970s. Peter's eyes lit up one day last year when I brought the OSSA MAR to ride in a trial. Until then I had no idea he used to ride an OSSA Explorer back when they were new. Peter recently donated a swag of VHS tapes of RTC club events and from them I can tell that he was a Yamaha man right from when Yamaha started making trials bikes. There was video of him on an early TY175, then a TY175E, then a TY250N, then a TY250R (pinky) that his son Trent still rides in club events.
I had to laugh looking at the phone numbers on the poster being only 6 digits.
The subject of this line drawing is a well known rider from the 1970s and 1980s, who ran at least two trials schools up in Central Queensland in the late 1980s (and lots of other trials schools and public trials shows in Queensland). He was the coach for a multi-time Aussie trials champ. The bike in the drawing is a drum brake Yamaha air-cooled monoshock trials bike. Can anyone say who the rider on the poster is?

More clues:
Lived near Brisbane
Was member of Logan River club
Never seemed to get dirty
Anyone game to have a guess?

I think we may need more clues or we will have no HOPE of working it out.

I don't know who the rider is but I love it when old things such as this re-surface

Well done Nipper. I knew someone would know. Does anyone know what Steve Hope is up to nowadays?
