Does anybody recognise this flywheel please?
Could it be off a TY?

i reckon thats a suzuki rl 250 flywheel.......if you look at the pic,s the ty250 flywheel on the left is nothing like it. however the lightened suzuki ts 250 flywheel is very close! [less weighted band] i can check for sure by pulling off a side case on one of my rl,s, but IMO thats what it is......

Why would a Yammy guru know what an RL250 flywheel looked like?
I'm a Yamaha nut but have a few other brand flywheels up in the shed. I'll have a look. It does look Japanese though.

If it didn't have the steel band on the OD, it would be the spitting image of a KT250 flywheel.

Thanks all
Flywheel does feel heavy in motion - but only comparing it to an alpina 350. A band my have been added. Never owned / ridden a big sherpa before. Did put it on the scales when i had it out last to compare with a std flywheel. Wrote it down somewhere!!
Just on the off-chance, does anyone have a 325 sherpa flywheel laying around that they could weigh please?

cheers

Yes I can weigh a 325 ignition flywheel but probably not till Saturday afternoon.
For info, the 325cc Alpina and 350cc Alpina, and the 238cc (250) Alpina for that matter, all have the same ignition flywheel as the 238cc (250) and 325cc (325 and 350) Sherpa Ts. I don't know what the ignition flywheel for a 340cc Sherpa T looks like, but it is probably the same too.
If there is a difference in the amount of flywheel inertia between these bikes, it is due to what size flywheel is fitted on the primary drive end of the crankshaft.

Thanks feetup (i asume )
Flywheel on primary side is std -
So i shouldn't be too concerned about what weight is on the ignition side?
If so, don't go to the trouble of weighing the other.
Just trying to get to the bottom of the changes mr marken has made to this bike.
Maybe it's just a case of the stator plate for the elect. ignition didn't fit behind the std flywheel!

ps. gunna really try to get to brooweena this year - only setback could be that i will i have to drive to agnes the previous weekend

It's not just a matter of the stator fitting behind the flywheel, the flywheel magnets have to be in the right spot to generate the pulse and to suit the trigger, and the flywheel has to rotate in the right direction. A Femsa points flywheel would not work with a KT stator for pretty much the same reasons a DT175 electronic ignition won't work with a TY175 flywheel.
I would bet London to a brick that Richard has modified a KT backing plate and KT flywheel taper to fit the Bultaco, and added that steel ring to get it back close to the weight of the Femsa flywheel. Nowadays we are spoilt for choice for fitting electronic ignitions to Sherpa Ts. Richard certainly liked modifying Bultacos back then. Did yours come with disc brakes? Monoshock rear end? Serpentine exhaust?
It would be good to see you and your bike at Brooweena. I think it is going to be another good year there.
Regards
David

Hi, I think you will find there is a large difference in flywheel weights between the 238/250 sherpas and the 326 sherpas, the flywheels have the same taper and can be swapped if so desired, but there is a significant difference in overall dimensions. Cheers Greg
