don smith wrote a great book on trials too! got plenty on his works kt450 development.if it wasnt for don,there would be no kt250,s that was "his baby" heaps of great pics in his book too! kt,s some of sammy millers bikes too! the aerial and his tl,s . hows that "sand cast" motor and hubs ....kool bike!

Did you see why they made it a 450cc?
Similar to Maico winning the 750cc class in the ISDT in the 1970s using a 501cc single cylinder two-stroke. Pretty bad to ride but still better than the normal "over-500cc" bikes which were way heavier.
I suspect the 450cc KT had a motor that shared quite a few mechanical bits with the KX450.
