More TYZ help needed

Hi all,
More info needed. I have the engine out and I am about to split the cases. The question is: are the two threaded holes indicated by the screw drivers the holes for a puller to separate the cases?

Still unable to get a service manual so if any one can point me in the right direction that would be great!

Iain yes that is what those threaded holes are for. They are the same setup on every Yamaha single cylinder dirt bike motor I have pulled apart.
I've never seen a workshop manual specifically for the TY250Z, but the TY250Z motor is are based on the YZ250 motors from the early 1990s and you might be able to get a Yamaha manual for one of them.
Have you looked on The Hell Team website (Scorpa and Xispa bikes)? There is some Yamaha TY technical info there.
The Scorpa SY250 2000 to 2009 models have a motor that is based on the TY250Z motor (and made by Yamaha) so you may have luck if you look in the Scorpa SY250 direction.

Hi David, thanks for the info. I have already looked at the Hell Team site and copied the Scorpa stuff. This is my first attempt at taking an engine apart so its all new to me.

I note that there are two sets of suspension mounting points on the swing arm, I know they change the lever ratio on the shock but what is the practical difference between them? Secondly all the suspension bolts are drilled for grease nipples, as are the inner sleeves but the ends are plugged. Why would you not use grease nipples if you could?

I'm pretty sure mine had grease nipples fitted but I don't know when they were fitted.
I didn't notice alternate locations for linkage connection to the swingarm, but it was about 10 years ago that I pulled it apart last. Alternate positions may be for tuning the ride height. Can you post a photo?

Hi David, photo attached. The holes to the right are where the suspension was originally mounted. On a different subject, do you need to bleed the auto oiler when it is re-installed on the bike?

Hi there lain ive just looked at the scorpa manual at the hell team looks like everything you need is there but i do have a tyz250 manual iff there is anything extra you need to know drop me a line Good luck with your rebuild it will be well worth it ,ive had mine for some 14 years and have had plenty of chances to update, but i still ride the Z,!Technoligy has left them long behind but they are still competitive and are just so nice to ride,scorpa did well to hook up with those motors!!!

Hi Squat 405, thanks for the encouragement. The sub frame and swing arm are off tobe sprayed next week. Just looking forward to riding it now. I have been to the Hell site and downloded the parts list and the users manual but neither show things like torque settings, wear tolerances or servicing instructions. Have I missed something?

To take you up on your offer what is the acceptable latteral play on the big end bearing? I think there should be some movement allowed along the crank.

Where did you get your manual from?

Iain that swingarm is very different to what came on the TY250Z models that were sold here. I'll have a scout around and see if I can work out why yours is the way it is. My first thought is that yours might have started out as a Japanese domestic model.
The first difference I noticed is that yours is made of steel while the TY250Z swingarms I am familiar with are made of aluminium.

Yes they made the swingarm different on the TY250Z Scottish to the TY250Z models we got here.
Here is a brochure shot I just found that shows your bike in all its glory. I reckon I was wrong about Nigel Birkett building them. I now reckon it was a model put together by Yamaha in Japan and intended for people who wanted to road rego them and only marketed in some countries.
