Hi everyone, back on the forum after a long break!
Ive found a Ty80, will post some pics if i buy it...
Are they hard to get parts for? i had no problem buying mechanicals for my TY250 build...was wondering if the 80s are as easy to get parts for?
i know so far its missing a rear gaurd... im not sure if there would be reproduction parts for the 80s, like there is for the 250s. Im not really out to ride this bike, its just more of a collecting thing, something to restore and have on display.

Depends which TY80 you are looking at. The "small wheel" TY80 was sold all over the trials-riding world and there are NOS and repro parts available (including guards and tyres) from the UK. I recently was able to buy a fibreglass replica sidecover made in Australia for mine.
The "big wheel" TY80 is quite different and was only sold in some countries and did not include the UK. The big wheel TY80 shares many parts with the TY50 which has become a cult bike in mainland Western Europe but I have not seen any suppliers of parts for them yet. The big wheel TY80 model shares some parts with other Aussie Yamaha models like the GT80, GTMX80, YZ80 and later models of DT100.

When I restored the small wheel '80 a couple of years back I also used a number of suppliers in the UK for parts. One of the easiest to deal with is JK Hirst, here's a link to their Yamaha trials spares and as the exchange rate is strong in our favour, buying from the UK or europe isn't too bad right now.

I remember flogging around on my brothers TY80 as an older brother when I was a kid in the 70's who should know better, when I flipped it and bent one of the shocks when it landed. Quite a gutsy little bike when running well!

Trails and Trials UK have a good supply of mechanical bits and pieces for the TY80 models, I bought a new plastic moulded front guard fo my unit from there. John also carries a lot of bolt kits, grips, levers, springs, cables, pegs and some other good bits as well. Try them either on their ebay site or thru the WWW.

This one on eBay would require a very big parcel of bits from the UK methinks...
