a flatslide carby on the Bulto? Maybe if it was flattened by a hammer... i'll leave this one to the 'experts', this is going to be good....

The way I read it (clause 23.5 - 2010 MoMS)...

You can have a flat slide if:
1. You can prove the carby was made before Dec 31 1985, or
2. If you can prove it looks identical to one that was made before Dec 31 1985

I haven't found evidence that a PWK28 was around before Dec 31 1985, but I do know of 2 stroke bikes that ran flatsides before then, that would be of suitable size.

So IF you can get evidence that PWK28's were available pre Dec 31 1985, AND you can prove an OKO is externally indistinguishable from a PWK28, then you can run an OKO...

EASY!!!

Wouldn't it have been a bit less confusing for the Supp Regs to say either:

"flat slide type carburettors of any manufacturing date are prohibited"

or

"carburettor design type and date of manufacture is not restricted"

Toby there will be an eligibility scrutineer at the Aussies for Classic and Twinshock. I can't remember his name but it is on these forums somewhere in the discussions about the eligibility of "square-barrel Tiger Cubs".
You should be able to ask him for a clarification before sending off your entry.

Hi There, There are two types of flatslide carbies which would be eligible. One is the Gardener Caburettor(imposible to jet) and the Lectron as sold by Bert Flood in the Seventies and early Eighties(even harder to jet!)
I dont know if there is any resemblance to a PWK, you would have to check.

That's not quite right Geoff. I don't see why the Mikuni flatslide wouldn't be eligible either....

Just a quick note on the Aussies, I have it on very good authority that the organisers are NOT accepting any late entries no matter who you are. So with less than 2 weeks to go and only around 60 entries so far, some people are leaving it to the last minute to enter!!!

Well the carby issue has been put to rest. Must have been made before 1986.

I do have a query though. My Kawasaki runs a Mikuni VM26 carb. It is currently running an OKO flatslide, so it is clearly ineligible, so I thought I would buy a brand new VM26 carb to get it legal. The carb is the same model that came OEM on the KT.

Now the rules says the carb is a major component, and has to be made before 1986, or look the same as the one made before 1986.

Is my brand new Mikuni eligible, or will I be knocked back at scrutineering?

Does that make a brand new, manufactured in 2010, AMAL M2 - as fitted to 250 Sherpa’s and available new from AMAL UK - illegal too????
