Cairns FNQ - Eager to learn the ropes!

Hi all,

My name is Jay, I'm a 26yr old guy living in Cairns North QLD who is interested in learning to ride trials bikes.

My main biking interest has been in enduro riding for the past few years, but I'm starting to get a little bit too ambitious when it comes to tackling trail obstacles. I like the idea of being "unstoppable no matter what terrain" even though I have a long way to go yet... I recently dislocated a shoulder during a trip in WA after screwing up an attempted 1.5m high log hop (1m logs are usually no problem for me). I'm always practicing less-than walking speed riding focusing on balance, and clutch/throttle input, so maybe I need (want) a trials bike.

I recently saw a 2nd hand 2010 Sherco 2.9 for sale for cheap, and very nearly put a deposit on it, but I haven't really got that much money to (responsibly) splash around at the moment as I'm still recovering from a 5 month dirt biking holiday. I'm keen to spend up to $5000 on a 2nd hand trials bike, so if anyone in the Cairns (even Townsville) area knows of a good one up for sale please let me know! They seem to be hard to come by, I've only ever seen 2 trials bikes in the flesh around here in my 26 years, one of them being that Sherco

Also, if you ride enduro and want to hook up, I'm always up for a ride rain, hail or shine. Have a reliable ktm 2 banger with a 13L tank, own tools, tow rope (for huskies), gps, first aid, etc. Just send me a PM.

Guess I'll see you's around :D

Hello there Jay. I saw your letter and immediately recognized you from what you dad Trevor had told me about your recent adventures in WA. We have met a few years ago at your dad's place. I and some mates have been into trials for many years. There are about eight of us who regularly go trials riding in the Cairns area. I have a Montesa RT250 at the moment. Trials is a good hobby to keep fit and is also very cheap after you buy a decent bike. If I were you I would buy something no less than about 4-5K as anything older is old technology. I have lots of trials DVDs if you want some copies. Most of the trials bikes for sale are are down south which mean shipping costs of around $400 +. Call me on 40343905 if you want more info or email [email protected]
Regards Neil Julian

Its Don here from Sherco in Canberra. We have a good Sherco dealer up there in Cairns, Dean from Bits for Bikes. We have a range second hand Trials bikes in your price range that we could freight up to you or to Dean.
If you like give us a ring on 02-62480229 (We're here Mon-Sat) & we can look at some options.

Give Don from MotoCentral a call. I purchased my secondhand trials bike (Sherco) from them a few months ago after a 13 year trials absence. I got a great deal and it was delivered up to QLD no hassles.
