There are changes coming that will affect young riders competing in twinshock trials run under Motorcycling Australia jurisdiction.
An engine upper capacity limit will probably be imposed on riders aged 15 and under, starting in 2013.
Most twinshock riders in that age group ride twinshock bikes that are at the smaller end of the spectrum and the TLM50, TY80, Cota 172, TL125 and TY175 are popular with kids for good reason.
What I'm interested in is how many of our kids 15 and under ride twinshock trials bikes that are BIGGER than 200cc. There are two riders who fit that scenario in our local clubs. One rides a KT250 and is almost 16 and the other is younger (12 maybe) and rides a TL250. Please reply if you know of any others out there who might be disadvantaged by a 200cc limit for twinshock riders 15 years and younger
Thanks
David

Hello David. Yes we have a few in WDTC who would fall under that as they ride TY 175`s or CT 175 Honda`s so this ruling would affect them. Graham.

Re: Young riders on Twinshocks
Good news tonight. I’ve just learned that the issues I was worried about regarding youngsters riding twinshock bikes are being resolved, and next year’s (2013) MA MOMS will contain wording that allows for youngsters to ride a twinshock or classic bike of any engine capacity.
For anyone concerned about a rider being too small for a particular bike, there already is a clause in the MA MOMS about rider size vs bike size that applies to all trials bikes (including twinshocks and classics) - riders have to be capable of lifting their bike from the lying-down-on-its-side position to a standing position, unaided.

Re: Young riders on Twinshocks
I'm glad they dont ask the adults too - I'd be OK at the start of a trial, but after 4 laps of 10 I think I'd struggle with my Ariel.
