Hi all,
I'm planning to move from Spain to Australia next month and I'm considering to bring one of my trials motorcycle, the international mover will be in charge of transportation and customs clearance but I' don't know the Australian regulations about this kind of bikes, are these considered special recreation vehicles with no need of documents? of course, I'm intending to use it just for trial and not as regular vehicle.
The second question is regarding which one to bring? I've one "2009 Montesa Repsol" and several twinshocks (Bultaco, Montesa, OSSA, Honda, ...), is more difficult to ride legally a twinshock than a new one? I mean in terms of paperwork.
And, are there clubs and places to ride in the Gold Coast region? twinshock activities?

Why not bring them all. You'll have the full attention and support of all the Aussie "Yellow Breasted Twinshock Warblers" if you do!!!!! I.E. there are plenty of Twinshock enthusiasts out here that would be more than interested in your collection if you chose to bring them. Not sure of the rules and regulations though, check with your local Australian embassy or trade commission I'd suggest.

There are four clubs the operate within a couple of hours drive from the Gold Coast with one based on the coast (SQTA ) and the others not to far away. Between them all you could probably get a competition ride every second or third weekend and there are a lot of rides that go play in other areas around the coast. You will have difficulty road registering any of the bike's (depends on the bike some can be registered ) so a trailering to places is the go.

I only ride these bikes for fun, always trailering them to the property or proper location, in this case, do I need any document, pay any tax, or ... ?
In Spain, you do not need any document to ride into the limits of private properties or competition zones and trailing bike, but if you use it to ride outside these limits you need a plate for the bike, vehicle insurance, pay annual taxes, and periodically acreditation about technical inspections over lights, mirrors, ...

Hello Trialet. I also live in southeastern Queensland and I am also the president of one of the clubs in the area. To ride in competition or on private property you don`t need any registration or anything else for your bike. In Queensland I think you are supposed to have registration to ride on firetrails and you have to have it on other roads. I am not to sure of the legalities of it all though. As to what bike to bring over there is a healthy twinshock or post classic scene over here as well as a good classic scene. There is more twinshocks being ridden in competition than classics though. Just bring one over and enjoy the riding over here. Graham.

When immigrating, bringing a vehicle with you is easy, and not nearly as impossible as living here and trying to import one.
You may only import one vehicle every 5 years - only just changed from one every year.
So the answer is easy :-
Bring a twinshock
Be it a Bultaco
Join WDTC (i think the force in twinshock numbers)

You’ll need the correct paperwork to get your bike in but you should have no problems bringing a bike for off road use only - to bring in a bike to register is heaps harder/more expensive and may not be worth the effort.
One word of caution - mud - Australia has incredibly strict quarantine regulations - make sure your bike and any accompanying spares are thoroughly steam cleaned – there’s every likelihood that they will be inspected and will be impounded if there’s any sign of mud.

So, yes BOGWHEEL, it will be a Bultaco, but need to choose between a '78 Sherpa(325cc), the blue one, with Dell'orto carb and Magicals Shocks or a '71 model Sherpa Kit 80 (250cc) fully original, magical shocks and the only mod is rear brake lever on right side and electronic ignition, just in case any of these mods are allowed under Australian rules, I'll consider bring a Montesa Cota 242, the red one ('85) completely original or the OSSA 350, the yellow one.

Good thinking. Get a modern bike anytime, but twinshocks are hard to obtain. There are plenty here, a lot being hidden / not ridden, or not for sale.

Sadly, due to numbers, only one twinshock class here.
If you want to be different, bring the Cota or the Gripper, as they are scarce here. (actually don't recall seeing a 242 in the flesh)

I was just reading the rules, and it looks like that bikes like Yamaha TTR125/SuzukiDr125/Honda150f could be used in trials in standart form, eg with knobby tyres, would that be true??
