Looking at buying two RL250's

1. RL250 75 model in complete and running, needs tidy up

2. RL 250 76 model with ccompliance plate, Basket case, frame painted, motor reconned and ready to go back in frame, all parts good condition - complete bikes there plus spare motor

New to RL250's, only ever rode TY's


What are these RL's like, are they a good bike like TY?

what would they roughly be worth?

Everything about the standard RL250 except the frame is really good. The frame issues (fragility and geometry) can be fixed
If you like 2 stroke Jap trials bikes but cant stand the idea of riding a Yamaha (due to their high popularity), then an RL might be just the thing for you
What are they worth? If a bike is all there and can be ridden - at least $600, more depending on condition.
A bike in bits? - motor recon but no way to test it? - depends on how risk averse you are and if it is something rare and desirable in your mind

I especially like my RL250's, have been riding pretty much trouble free for years. The frame has a weak spot just above the left foot peg where the gussets nearly come together. Small matter to repair or prevent by welding gussets and any cracks together. Here in the states I have paid $300 for a barely running parts bike to $1800 for one too nice to ride.
