Report and results for RTC Inc Trial at Seeonee Park 1 April 2012

A fantastic trial today at Seeonee Park was enjoyed by RTC riders.

The sections were set for the first time in Skull Rock Gully and were a blast to ride. The compact layout of the seven sections made for lots of socialising and easy access for the spectators. It was a bit of a walk up to where the sections were but once there spectators could watch all the action within a 40 metre range from Section 1. There had been lots of effort put in by people clearing the amazing grass regrowth for the sections and the access trails. Top marks for the sections and the layout I reckon.

The section setters took advantage of the abundant rocky outcrops and rock-lined gully beds in this area, making it one of the most rock-filled trials we have had for a while. One of the sections even contained the CQ version of Uluru. Wendy’s comment was that the ground surface was quite different to normal – not just in the sections, but everywhere in the area was covered with small, rounded loose rocks. There was also mud still around from the recent rain and the section setters managed to get a couple of points from me in section 6 as the mud hole just before a rock step sucked my back wheel down more than I anticipated. There was also a wide mudhole on the 4WD track between the cars and the sections and the section setters had gone to the trouble of placing a long aluminium scaffold plank across it as a bridge for spectators – very thoughtful.

The weather was quite oppressive with high humidity and temperatures and little breeze. It was very nice to cruise back to the car between laps and cool off riding along.

Drew Wickerson presented a very neat map at the riders’ briefing to show how to navigate between sections and to explain the way that some of the sections had multiple entry points for different grades. While there were seven sections, individual riders only rode six, with number 7 being a C and Novice-only section, and number 1 being an A, B and Twinshock-only section. I greatly enjoyed the riding, being able to try out a couple of different bikes on very rocky sections, and going for a walk up to Skull Rock with Darcy - thank you all involved
Drew rode his TLR250, still awaiting the arrival of his new Beta 300 four stroke, and David Erba also rode a TLR250, which is for sale.
