Rocky Trials Club trial this Sunday 29th April near Calliope

Post by David Lahey »

This Sunday 29th April 2012, the RTC Inc trial is at Boston's property, Dawson Highway, 18.8km West of Calliope Post Office

Nominations from 0900, riders' briefing at 0945 and riding starts at 1000

All welcome to ride or spectate. Rider nominations are $20 per adult and $5 per dependent child. Spectators free entry

The property entrance is on the South side of the Dawson Highway, 18.8km West of the Calliope Post Office. Another useful distance marker is that the property entrance is 3.5km past the bridge over Scrubby Creek (if heading West)

For people coming from the North, it is a slightly shorter trip to turn off the Bruce Highway near Raglan and come across to the Dawson Highway via "the old station" road. Turn left when you get to the Dawson Highway.

The property entrance has a sign "Homeview" at the letterbox

Between the Dawson Highway and the property is about 100 metres and this includes a level crossing of the Moura-Gladstone railway line. Please take great care crossing this train line because the line is in active service and the visibility along the line to the west is limited by a curved cutting.

Progress towards setting the sections:

There have been two working bees so far, clearing thick grass from two main areas. The limestone karst outcrops near the vehicle graveyard were cleared today (Kevin and Timothy Evans and myself), and a creek-line above the dam was cleared last weekend (Kevin and Timothy Evans, Angela Sophios and myself). I expect that we will be setting three sections in each area. We may set additional sections depending on the number of people who can help at the next work bee on Saturday.

Work to be done before the trial includes raking of the slashed grass at the limestone karst area, and the setting of the tapes and markers in both areas. I will be starting at about 0800 on Saturday morning (voting day) and would love help especially with the marking out of some of the sections. If a different time would suit, please contact myself or Angela.

We have been spared the heavy rain seen elsewhere so this trial is still on.
The sections have been set and if tomorrow is like today, riding conditions will be perfect, having a little bit of moisture in the soil and cool overcast weather.
