Report and results for RTC Inc Trial at Waterson’s 24 June 2012
Wet rocks, wet roots, loose rocks, gravel, sand, mud and quicksand. What a fantastic combination for trials riding. It was a very enjoyable day at Watersons and the riders revelled in the cool conditions. Having a loop to ride to access the sections made for a relaxing break between sections amid the beautiful surrounds of the rainforest shrouded creek.
There was misty rain almost from the beginning and it got gradually heavier by the time we left to steady, light rain. Not wet enough to have any problems with score cards, it was very enjoyable for the riders. Quickshade gazebos provided enough dry areas for people to rest and for the sign-on, scoring and the funds-raising sausage sizzle. Thank you Wendy Lahey for organising and cooking at the sizzle.
Nicole Casey enjoyed riding a lovely new 250 Sherco in B grade. A test ride on it had me in fits of laughter at the surprise of how light it felt. New member Peter Smith went well on his Beta Rev 3 – also in B grade.
Mark Casswell worked on a mystery engine gremlin all day Saturday, finally sorting it at about midnight. His SWM recently had a full engine rebuild and some bugs still needed attention. The motor sure went beautifully today and Mark is showing lots of confidence on that bike.
Tim Stone’s stealth black TY175 went beautifully also and Tim rode very consistently to win Twinshock class. I had a test ride on it after the trial and it felt wonderfully light to ride and the motor went like a Swiss watch. David Que was keen to ride but had recently sold his Beta, so had ride in Twinshock class on my TY250A and he adapted admirably. It was great to watch it being ridden so well. Glen Hunt rode with far more confidence this time as he gets used to riding trials on his beautifully restored TLR200. Drew Wickerson rode his amazing-looking TLR250 again, and should have his new Beta Rev 4 300 in time for the next trial.
The A grade line in section 2 had an optional scary-high bank climb which was conquered successfully by Barry Caird on the first lap and from what I have heard also by another bike (but without its rider aboard)
Another spectacle was when the very first A grade rider attempted the “quicksand” log crossing and came to a sudden stop as the front wheel found a nice soft landing spot. All it took was to land with the bars slightly turned and it was all over, Rover.
The B and C lines through the quicksand claimed few victims and for me was an enjoyable novelty – we don’t get to ride quicksand very often.
