TL clutch slipping

Post by wil15424 »

:| Hi All just wondering whats the good oil to use in the TL. The clutch slips when loaded up & dumped but is fine when in normal use, I haven't put it up a decent hill yet to see if slips as I'm just sorting it out and riding it in the reserve out the back.
So I am going to give it an oil change, the oil in it is pretty bad so I hope that's the problem & am open for suggestions on the best oil to use or if I should take the clutch out & clean etc ?
Big thanks in advance
Wil :D

There maybe a chance that someone has put SL or SM rated oil in there, before you start ebaying plates and springs maybe change the oil to a SG rated motorcycle oil[not SH or SJ]. So change the oil then go for a ride and change it again so its flushed out. 8-[

thank's pop I just gave it a change today seemed to be fine in the 3 lower gears & finding neutral was easier but 4th & 5th slipped like a bugger going up a mild slope. The oil I used was a shell helix hx7 10w -40 car oil. don't know if it's ok to use or should I be buying something more specific like pop stated an SG rated oil any particular brands?.
It was slipping pretty bad so might have to get some ideas on how to service the clutch or trawl ebay for a new one which I don't want to as my budget is $0 at the moment.I might check the free play tomorrow & hope there's adjustment needed there for a quick fix.
Im enjoying having a tinker then a bit of a ride to feel the changes is pretty fun & working towards a bike that's more reliable & enjoyable to ride.Just hope I can boost the budget & get some fairdinkum stuff done soon.
slow & stead wins the race.
cheers

I think the oil you put in there is friction modified[SL or SM], you might have to wash the plates with kero, and replace the oil again, unless the clutch worn out. You can get SG rated oil at any bike shop or supercheap auto stores/Repco etc.
