Ty175b registration

Post by typarts-aus »

Does anyone know if the TY175b can be registered for road use in NSW. A local rego centre told me that after september 1976 motorcycles required an ADR compliance plate, but not before this date. Also did the bike come equiped with a speedo. :?:

cheers Greg

Yes the thing they told you about ADR plates is right. The reason for that date is because that is when the ADR legislation came into force. The TY175B model came with a small diameter speedo mounted down behind the LH fork slider on a bracket that attached to the fork slider using the same mounting holes as the front guard.
It took a while for the ADR plate system to work properly though. I remember buying a new, road registered 1977 model IT175D in 1977 and it did not have an ADR plate. A bit later on, the Yamaha importer got up to speed and when you bought a new bike that you wanted to road register, they posted the ADR plate out to you after they had been made up. By 1978/79, the system was working and you could expect your new Yamaha, Bultaco, Montesa whatever to have the ADR plate already in place.

Thanks David, I was told otherwise about the speedo so was unsure. I might have to add to the collection.
