Twinshock bike build.

Post by yorkshireracer »

I'm gradually getting all bits together for the twinshock. Building around a 1980 Suzuki TS250 motor.
So far got pair of Honda XL250 forks, XL125 front wheel and Honda trail bike tank. Just need to get rim for back wheel (I've got a couple of wheel hubs to choose from), shocks and pair of handlebars.
Probably base frame on TY or TL. It's getting built to New Zealand rules so I'll need to investigate what I can / can't do so things may change !
This is my first foray into the noble art so should be fun.

Having got rid of a customers bike I find myself with a gaping hole in the workshop (in between the road bike build, the drag bike and 'future projects' :!: so the gap will be filled with the trials bike.
I'm currently looking at back shocks.was originally going to put Hagons on but have been looking at ones from the ty shop in uk. Anybody have any knowledge of these ? are they a reasonable shock for the money ? shop ok to deal with ?

looking at either ty250 classic or tl250 classic. Always had Hagons on various projects and used them on the grass track bikes and they are slightly cheaper than ty shop. As I say, I'm all new to this trials building so am happy to take advice.

Hi yorkshireracer

I know this will be treated as heresy by some but… imagine 198/9 b Sherpa lightweight chassis with titanium/alloy repackable exhaust system mmmm… I’d buy one and I bet you’d be shipping them back to UK and Spain in container loads.

BTW – where are you from? – I’m happy to say with League Cup Final approaching I’m an ex Bradford lad.

Hi David, sorry it's www.tytrials.com
ty 250 classic and tl250 betor classic shocks (not the more expensive aluminium ones) which i'm guessing are just 'better' cosmetically ?
Other issue is upright or laid down ? road and race bikes generally work better with laid down suspension, same with trials ?

Dave, mild laydown seems to be the go (tho Bultaco seemed to think differently)to get rising rate progression but be careful cos too much laydown causes falling rate in latter part of the stroke.
