KT250 project

Post by straightpipe »

Hi, Starting on a new KT250 project. Looks OK on photo's but closer inspection shows: flat spot and broken spokes on rear wheel, bent rear KONI shock, and
lower tapered steering head bearing destroyed. May have landed from a bit of height :( . Previous owner has rattle can sprayed visible frame and exhaust,
overspray coats bottom of tank, carburetor, electrical components and rear mudguard just to name a couple of things. Haven't heard the engine going so
fingers crossed !.

Hi, Next step. Just finished getting new bash plate fabricated as original was rusted out. Thought about widening it to protect side covers but decided it might hinder installation and removal of engine. As close to original as i could get, right down to the number of holes  . Frame is now off to media blasting and powdercoat. Cheers Ross

Hi, Still waiting for frame to return from powder coating, so time to look at shocks. Old Koni shocks stuffed so replacing with 340mm Betor shocks ($$$$ ouch!). Front shocks have rust on the chrome but not near the fork seals. New seals and replacement springs from Fred to replace saggy old ones. Project moves slowly forward. Cheers Ross

Hi, just a quick photo of goodies waiting to be used. Lots from Fred and Deb (including newly produced carb to air box connector to replace hard, brittle one). Even have some rubber/steel swing arm bushes from a dutch supplier (postage a killer  ).lots of viewing and some buying on Ebay (sometimes cheaper and more convenient to purchase online than to drive to town :!: ). Cheers Ross

Hi, Frame back from powdercoat. Decided to go with a white frame. Why? 1. Influenced by Scorps goer :D . 2. Trinny and Susanah tell me that wearing black looks heavier (anything to try to reduce the weight of the green pig  ). 3. Because i can  Cheers Ross

Hi, All hyped up and ready to put KT together. But NO. Lower steering head bearing i have does not fit  and motor cycle painter has helpfully removed upper ball bearing race. Difficult to determine old bearing measurements . possibly 52mm OD, 25mm ID, width ??????. Any one got any idea. Help much appreciated. Cheers Ross

52x25 it is, top & bottom, if I recall correctly

I just had a look and found that a lower bearing that I removed from a KT stem I gave away recently is stamped 30205, and it measures 25 x 52 x 16. The 16mm thickness is metal to metal ie I took the rubber shield off to measure it.
The lower bearing I fitted to my KT has box markings of NTN 4T-30205 and did not come with a rubber shield.
relax, nothing is under control
