TLR 250 Shock rebuild

Howdy folks,
Does anybody know if they can be re-built , or has done a rebuild on Honda TLR250 shocks.
Mine sprang a leak at Denman the other weekend.

If I had a heap of "Fun-Tickets" I'd just buy some new Pro Elite Betor shocks, but I don't so I'm looking for a cheap alternative.

Any advice / info much appreciated

I bought my TLR from a guy who said he had the rear shocks rebuilt, I couldn't see how? just took his word for it.

They did look pretty fresh, but never used them for long before fitting falcons

Hi Garry

Have you had a chance to pull down those shocks yet???

Just went out to the shed of invention and had a quick squiz at the standard TLR shocks under the bench, and at a glance, i think they would probably come apart much the same as the Falcons. Just get the dust cover off and all will be revealed.

When you get them apart, where Will you get the parts for the rebuild from?

I had mine rebuilt @ a suspension shop for about $80 don't forget they have gas 1 of my shocks had a valve installed the other had a valve needle valve installed

I haven't pulled them apart yet & I don't really want to get carried away incase I totally bugger them.
Eagle where did you get yours rebuilt ?
I'm down a little south of Wollongong.

I had mine done @ 2 different places i'm in Melbourne, i'm sure any suspension rebuiber could do it

Dear Gary,

First of all, I did'nt think you could see my helmet in that video.

Betor trials shocks have been crap quality for years.

Search the web and Trials central for threads ad nauseum about various seals and faults along with good and bad stories about refunds and exchanges of faulty shocks by the UK importer of Betors.

I had Betors Waaaaay back in the early seventiies and they were crap then, blown seals, shit springs etc..

This made me search for decent shock/spring combination when I finally rebuilt my Sherpa in about 2002.

I finally found NJB shocks after looking at RockShocks,( another pair of shite shocks and bullshit from the maker, that I had in the eighties ) Falcons, Hagon and YSS ( YUK! They sent me mismatched "pair" of steel chromed road bike shocks [for my TRIALS bike] that leaked smelly, burnt, second hand oil after about 10 minutes of riding around the yard, I just phoned them and told them the shocks were in the bin. Stunned silence and nothing further heard, certainly no refund!)

Norman worked with Girling for years and then bought the design rights for the Girling Gas shock and developed them further. he is a proper engineer displaying skill and judgement backed up by a good product and prompt service, a rarity these days.

Give him your weight and bike and type of riding and he will tailor a pair of shocks with high quality springs, seals, and rose joints each end, to your needs, give him your credit card details and a pair will drop through your letter box in about a week and a half.

I have several pairs and they all cost about $180.00 a pair, delivered.

You will not spend better money. The pair on my Sherpa are at least 11 years old.
