Tyre Problem

Hi all, I'm having a problem with my rear tyre. Despite taking it off numerous times, cleaning the rim and tyre I can't get it to seal around the bead. It pops onto the bead ok and doesn't leak when there is plenty of pressure but as soon as you let it down below 10 psi it leaks around the bead. There is no leaks in the rim or tyre just between the two. It's a fairly new Dunlop. Any clues? Cheers

are you sure it has popped up fully? sounds like it is not quite there yet. Are you using lube to help it?

Yeah, might be, but I put 80 plus psi and it went bang twice and on visual inspection it appears to be seated all the way round.

How long does it take to go down?

Are u sure the rim band/valve isn't leaking instead??

have you tried a rim sealant. or put a tube in it. I would expect a tire to leak at the bead with low pressure because the tyre is more flexible and would roll on the rim. I haven't used tubeless but I have been fascinated how they stay up using such low pressures. Has the rubber in your tyre gone hard and not flexiable?

Mine isn't the internal rubber band sealing type. The spokes attach to an external lip. Checked the valve stem and valve. each time I put it back together I submerse in water and can see the leak between the bead. It should be able to run tubeless at low pressure as it was designed to do.

to test for a specific leak site on rim or bead edge, mark the leak site then move the tyre around a bit on the rim, reseat it and this will tell if it is happening at a site on the tyre or a site the rim.
If the problem is that it slips off the rim when the pressure goes down, the problem isn't a single leak site, but that it is not seating fully. You haven't said if you have tried using a lube yet. Dishwashing liquid will work fine for this

Yep, done all that. marked tyre and rim where the leak is, moved tyre and leak is not confined to the marked spot. So as you say I suspect the whole tyre is not seating and sealing. I have been using liquid detergent each time to get it to pop on the bead.

Have you tried to ride it whilst the tyre is up pretty hard to try to settle the bead in place?

Fixes in order of expense and stupidity ;)

1 Get some green gloop and shove some in there. Works but makes the next tyre swap messy.

2. Shove a hd tube in there (been there done that  )

3 buy a new tyre 8)

4 buy a new bike....we know ur a rich real estate agent Kipo
