Hi there,

I have recently purchased a 2012 Ossa 280i, it's practically brand new (prev. owner did 90mins on it from new, i've done about 3 hours on it).

I'm new to trials bikes, been riding enduro bikes for the last 6 years.


- the clutch, when you are in neutral and it's running, soon as you click into 1st gear you will take off and start rolling forward, even though the clutch is pulled in all the way. even after its warmed up, you can ride around with the clutch pulled all the way in. so basically its impossible to stop completely and work on balance and ride properly, because the bike wants to go forward even if you don't give any throttle.

As I said i'm new to trials bikes, and i'm sure there are easy fixes to these problems. When the bike is running, i'm having lots of fun, its certainly different to my 250 2stroke KTM. If I can sort the above issues out, it'd be super.

sounds like the wrong oil in the gearbox, such as a friction modified car oil or warped,sticking plates, the starting problem could be a dirty filter/screen in the Fuel injection or tank or water in the system.

Couple of suggestions:
First I would look at the actuating screw adjustment on the lever.
Look where the lever actuates the clutch piston and you will see a grub type screw with a lock nut
I personally like to set mine so there is next to no free play in the lever action. just try screwing in the grub screw
and see if this helps at all, be careful not to go to far as it WILL cause you to slip the clutch constantly.

If the bike has been stored for a fair while you can get the oil acting like a glue on the clutch plates
sounds harsh but if your ride around for 5 minutes or so in 4th gear then stamp on the rear break
with the clutch lever in it may release them and all will be good. Or just pop the covers off and remove/clean
the plates.

It's fairly normal to have a bit of drag in the Ossa as its a diaphragm type clutch. It sounds like someone has put the wrong oil in it. Make sure that you run a really light gearbox oil, 75w, I've been using the GRO Gear Extrem which has been good. If you still have problems Trent and Cass at "Trialsbike" are a great help. Also Ossa UK and Ossa Canada web sites have good info on them.

ended up unscrewing the top of the clutch reservoir, and the thing was bone dry. so i think thats why i got it at a cheap price ($5500, only had 90mins on it from new). is because the guy maybe didnt check the reservoir, and saw on the forums that clutch drag is normal unless you buy a clutch kit. and couldnt be bothered with it all.

so we topped it up with hydraulic mineral oil, bled it to get any bubbles out, started it, clicked into gear, and it's perfect, no drag at all. can hold the clutch in and it'll come to a complete stop. so i'm super happy.

and to all those who say "its normal to have clutch drag", how do the pro's do the comps when they have to come to a complete stop before they attempt to hop up an object? having experienced drag and now, no drag, its so damn hard to do things with drag, even simply coming to a complete stop, i couldnt do it before.
