Hello, Took the TLR our for its first test run today.
Overall, highly delighted with performance and handling.
Some slight clutch slip in second gear under heavy loads.
Not sure if it simply an Oil Issue, or if we need a set of new Clutch Plates.
Can anyone help on Best Oil to use, and ALSO, If we need to buy a set of new Clutch Plates, what Brand / Maker do you suggest ?
Your advise is much appreciated,
Ron S

Most people upgrade their clutch in the 250 with Barnett clutch plates, think they are the same in the 200??
Local bike shop should be able to get them in for you. Best track down the part number from Barnett first, save some pain at the bike shop.

Hi Ron,
As per Sharvie, get a set of Barnett Kevlar plates (same as XR200) and use a good quality mineral oil 10w 40
Yes the TLR200 and TLR250 use the same plates and clutch.
cheers, Brian

You have probably already bought the plates but I looked them up at Bikes and Bits in Perth and they list a kit for the TLR250 for $105 which come with steel and friction plates. Also listed as fitting XR200 from 1980 - 2002. They only sell wholesale so you need to go through a shop and would be hit up for frieght as well. I got an order a couple of weeks ago and the freight was a $15 air bag.

I'm presuming mcgor is talking about a Barnett clutch kit with springs & the metal clutch plates as well?

Back in 1986 I bought a new TLR 250,the clutch was awful, esp when the engine got hot.Back then we fitted bog standard XL/CB125 Honda plates and ran Silkolene Pro 4 oil. This fixed them completely, along with a 25mm extension on the clutch arm.We also used to change the oil after every other trial...

Morning All,
On advise from the people at Serco and others, just ordered the Barnett Friction Plates and set of their Springs.
Bike has done very little work from new and Steel Plates look OK.
