This clean-up/re-build is associated with my TY which is getting a more comprehensive going over. This project is primarily cosmetic. The TLR is basically in pretty good shape. It is just filthy dirty and needs some paint. What I want to do is stop the corrosion associated with my salty environment and finally (after about 5 years..) get some paint on my seat/tank unit. Follow along at my blog if you are interested. I do have a question at this time. After removing the engine, how can I support the frame in order to take the chassis to bits// Any advice would be welcome.

Once the motor is out the frame only has to support itself so you shouldn't need anything in place of the motor.

alternatively you could take the motor out of the frame after taking everything else apart

Thanks for the suggestions guys....The best solution would have been to strip the frame with the engine in place...but I'm not bright enough to work that out...I did come up with a solution for the swing arm, rear wheel and shocks...some car stands went neatly under the foot pegs and supported the frame while I stripped off the rear pieces...after that the remainder weighed almost nothing and so the forks and triple tree came off easily..

The TLR project that I started about seven months ago is finally finished. Delays caused by a significant hurricane and some very hot and humid weather not withstanding, it is ready to go. I went for a short ride yesterday just to confirm that I can re-assemble a motorcycle...Surprise!...Surprise!...everything worked as intended. Next will be a longer ride to my favorite places just to determine if the gearing and tire changes have made any noticeable improvement.

Your TLR has a nice look about it, those alloy guards seem to suit it well.
