Mike, like any points coil ignition system, the stator winding should have a lowish resistance measured from end to end. Can't remember the correct number of ohms. Too low and it might be shorting to earth, too high and the winding has a break.
The usual problem on TY175 coils is corrosion and/or breakage where the coil winding joins the insulated cable. You can usually unwind a turn off the winding and make a fresh solder joint to join to a new piece of cable. Make sure you use something to hold the rest of the winding to keep it from coming loose, but without damaging the lacquer coating. Slip a piece of "spaghetti" or some heat shrink over any exposed copper. Electricians will probably shudder, but I fasten the end of the remaining coil winding in place with a small plastic cable tie around the winding

You can take the stator coil for the lights off the stator plate and leave it off. It makes no difference to the ignition
relax, nothing is under control

Have you tried cleaning the pionts? If it's been sitting for 20 years the pionts will have corroded.

Hi David I didn't understand your remedy! What I did was take the stator from my other TY which had a good spark fitted it to 2nd bike still no spark, removed fitted it back to 1st bike now no spark do the points need resetting. I tried setting points on both bikes but I canny see will have to someone with younger eyes!

Just been into the TY factory shop manual looking up a clearance and found the resistance specs you wanted.
Primary winding 4.5 ohms +- 10%. Secondary winding 6.0k ohms +- 20%.
