Hi all, maybe just a silly little newbie question.
Can anyone tell me what the splined mounts on the lower part of a TY175 frame are for?

I was told that it was for an optional footpeg arrangement for the TY250 and that Yamaha put the same mounts onto the TY175.
I was also told that it was basically a white elephant and that the sales for the TY250 optional footpeg arrangement were not as Yamaha had expected them to be. So the kit was never actually offered for the TY175's.

However I have trawled the interweb and not been able to find any mention of these mounts, what they were for or of the optional footpeg arrangement. I even tried trawling through google images of the ty's. There are many incarnations, lots of drool factor and a few basket cases, but nothing on these mounts.

Surely Yamaha did not just put them on the frame for riders to muse over what they could possibly be used for as they rehydrate for the next lap?

Some of you have a few old clippings and ads from the era in the 'pool room'. Does anyone have a pic of these mounts being used for their intended purpose?

I heard the same as you. I did see a set on ebay once or was that a set for 250 or both?

I thought the TY175 shared the frame with one of the DT models, maybe the DT 100 electric start farm bike, im sure one of them adjustable pegs.

My 76 175 C has a bit of oddball shit about it. The DT motor is one thing. Another is the footpegs it came with. Left as pictured by parts lists i trawled through seems MX or similair model. Not tried the right on as the DT kickstart fouled on everything and i've not tried it with the ty kicker. Might have a look tomorrow.

Thanks Paulo, and to David Lahey too. That is exactly the mount and story I had heard somewhere before and the photo in the other forum is super clear too.

I understand a better footpeg for trail riding when I sit on it and ride, the whole thing feels like a kids bike in it's size. I wonder were the alternate pegs larger too? As in a bit longer in length protruding from the frame, and possibly a little wider?
I know there are a number of aftermarket units available now, and I am thinking of changing mine. But I mean at the time. It would be great to track down an original picture of them fitted to the 250.

The footpegs will be a later mod. I need to ride this thing a little more, and particularly in a trial to see what I need to change for me.

The bike seems pretty good overall. I have cleaned the brakes up and they are probably the best drum brakes I have ever ridden. I have removed my oil injection, most of the electrics and the speedo, machined a blank for the speedo hole in the brake housing complete with o rings to keep water out of the bearing. I have ridden it a few times over some pretty good logs, and my trials training sections. It feels good in the sand and over logs, up and down steep creek banks.

I just need to work on the dainty pegs and I think it will be a great little fun ride.
