Hi All,

Has anyone got any suggestions on what trails boots are the best, I'm looking to buy a new pair but don't want to morgage my house to buy these.
I've got a '97 Beta and only ride casually, any comments would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are on the right track for enjoying trials bike riding more by using purpose made trials boots. I am still using my first pair of trials boots which are 1996 Gaerne. They are still going strong generally but need to have the sole reglued by a bootmaker approx annually. They are still the original soles. Originally I used gumboots in the 1970s then went thorugh three pairs of MX boots before buying the Gaerne boots in 1996. If I had known how much better trials boots were to ride trials with than MX boots I would have bought a pair much earlier.
Prices for new trials boots that I have seen in Brisbane range from $350 to $450. If you are on a tight budget keep an eye out for second hand boots on the Trials Australia website. I have not heard of any major problems with any of the name brand trials boots. Some brands are very hard to get a hold of sometimes.

wandered onto this forum and have had part of my question answered from a quick browse (question being are Trials boots that much better than a pair of Motocross type boots to be worth ordering over the net? rather than getting a pair from a local shop with the advantage of trying them on first)

The conversion chart at: http://www.trialzone.com.au/accessories/sizing.html shows that:

US 11=Euro 46, 12=47, 12.5=48 and 49=13.5

Just went and had a look at my sneakers which say US 13 and Euro 47 my old pair say US 12 Euro 46.5. These don't quite match up with those shown on the chart. I have size 12 Blundstones which fit me comfortably.
Have yet to look at any other size conversion charts on the net but will do.

Have noticed the Alpinestars on the Trialzone.com website and Gaerne at Kdmototrials.com. Just wondered if anybody here has a pair of these or any other boots and could tell me how they've gone with sizes?

(Haven't ridden for a few years and recently got a bike to get back into it, haven't had a change to get along to a local Trial and ask any riders about boots as of yet)

I recently bought some Gaernes from kal at kdmototrials.

I know that generally that sizing chart is right, but the gaernes are at least half a size bigger. Now I ride with inner soles and a liner sock, which, as it turns out is a really good way to go!.

Anyway just a heads up not to order with "room to move" if you are considering the Gaernes.

I bought a pair of gaernes last year. Awesome boots. Comfortable and well made.
Alpinestars ut are crap as far as im concerned. Take a look at people getting round in them and look at them taping the sole back onto the boot. They onlyglue the sole dont stitch it, and the glue lets go after about 12 months.

Also heard that diadoras are a top boot. I couldnt get a pair to fit me, being the bulk of a man that i am. But they have a hard wearing pad in the sole if i remember right for the part of your foot to pivot on the pegs.

What's wrong with Rossi Trials boots? I've had mine for nearly ten years now and they still shine up real well. A good budget boot, I reckon!

Thanks heaps for the suggestions on boots, very much appreciated. Will be travelling to Victoria soon (for a look at the Supertrial) and wondered if any bike shops in Melbourne stock Trials boots? If anyone has any suggestions (name/address) I'd be very grateful.

I know the Poms are recommending Goo or Goop on thier site whats the Aussi equivillent???????????

Have you tried using shoe-goo? I am a cobbler so I know it is pretty good gear and will adhere to poorly prepared surfaces.
