Hi everyone,

i need some info if possible?

i recently bought my 10yr old son a scorpa 4 stroke 175cc for him to better his riding skills (he 's quite tall),
he is a pretty good mx rider already and showed some interest in trials and enduro also.

i have heard some conflicting stories regarding capacity and kids grades to ride .
coming from mx we know we can compete on 125 2 stroke and 250 4 stroke in the same classes, is it the same for trials??

the competition rules state
mx 9-16 yaers can ride on up to 160cc 2 stroke
enduro is the same

junior post classic trials is up to 200cc (doesn't state 2 or 4 stroke)

junior modern says 125cc (doesn't say 2 or 4 stroke)


i am hoping to clear this up and that common sense prevails as my son is keen to ride some state and maybe the national championships any help would be great.

For MA-affiliated trials events (which obviously includes State & National titles) 125cc is the limit for juniors on modern bikes. The different capacities for juniors compared to MX/Enduro and lack of any distinction between 2/4 stroke reflects the engine capacities and performance available in modern trials bikes, the nature of the discipline and the typical physical abilities of junior riders. Similarly, the higher capacity limit for juniors in twin shock trials reflects the capacities and performance available in pre-86 bikes, etc.
There are non-affiliated Trials clubs that run regular competitions and while I can't speak for them, they at least have the discretion to allow your son to compete on the Scorpa 175. If you are from the Gold Coast area, the SQTA calendar just posted today would be a great place to start looking.
