Hi,
After my spark problems, with the Greeves I have dug out the second coil, I had fitted on a pre welded bracket, with a second spare condenser, which I had fitted, when the Greeves had full road rego.
Its a FEMSA unit, which I suspect, had Bultaco origins. ( BA9-53 DGLE )
Any way of testing this coil, to see how good it is ????
where could I get a new replacement ????
Also the HT lead is to short. Any ideas on making it longer ???? i was thinking,Cut lead back to body, solder new lead and epoxy around lead. Then when epoxy dry apply silicone ????

you can buy new aftermarket HT coils for points ignition for small $$$. Have a look on eBay there are quite a few people selling them. I've got one on my M49 Bultaco and it goes like a beaut.
Alternatively you can extend a copper HT lead by soldering the conductor inside the HT wire to the piece of HT lead that you want to add and insulating around the joint with silicone rubber and slide a piece of plastic tubing over the joint before the silicone sets
To test a HT coil you measure the resistance of the HT coil from plug wire to the laminations and it should be a few thousand ohms. The LT winding of the HT coil is measured between the LT terminal and the laminations and should be a much lower resistance something like 3 ohms. Someone else will probably know the exact numbers to expect
You can also test the coil by putting a plug in the plug cap, earthing the plug body against the coil laminations, then put 12V DC across the LT winding. It should cause a spark at the plug gap as you make and break the LT circuit

You can probably get MCS brand HT coils from your local motorbike shop

Hi David,
Took the coil to the local mower shop.
I know the owner quite well, and said no problems, testing it
We went out to the workshop to the 6/12volt coil testing machine.
We had a constant spark at 6.5mm, with Trev saying anything above 6mm is good, up to 9mm for a new coil.
The HT lead repair, suggested by you. was the same suggested by Trev.
