G'day, I'm looking for some feedback on the gearing that's on this bike. It's running a 520 chain with 12/48 sprockets. Just wondering if it's in the ballpark as is?

That will be slightly lower geared then stock. I tried the 12 tooth front but it looked like the chain was going to rub the engine case.

I've read that these bikes needed a reduction in gearing? I don't know if the chain will clear yet, I'll check that before i invest in new sprockets.

I believe the rear was a 54 when they were new,
and the front was a 15.

Can anyone absolutely confirm or deny if a 520 chain on a 12T or 11T front sprocket will foul on the engine casing?

I've ordered an 11T front for mine (I've got a new 45T rear so should end up with 4.0:1 gear ratio) - will be able to let you know in a couple weeks for sure, just want to know if I'm wasting my time even trying.

As I've mentioned in another post, my bike has 520 chain and was running a 13T front / 39T rear. There was no rubbing of the chain on the engine casing with the 13T, however it was rubbing on the swingarm which has now been rectified thanks to Paulo's ingenious cutting board solution, and a larger 45T rear sprocket - this was the largest I could find readily available.

Cheers,
Tom

Great, thanks Paulo.

I'll be going from 3.0:1 to 4.0:1 gearing if that's the case, so will be a vast difference to say the least!

Cheers,
Tom
