TY250 twin shock fuel tap gasket

Post by machman »

I hope someone there can help me. I disaassembled my TY250 C 1976 Yamaha;s fuel tap for cleaning, and somehow managed to lose a gasket. Its a round hard seal that sits between the 'wave waher' and lever; the lever that swings through 180 degrees is held on by a plate secured by two philips heads. Behind that is a 'wave washer' and another seal/gasket. Thats the one I lost.

Easy I thought, I have a parts book. Guess what..its not shown or mentioned. I started to question my sanity, as in 'was there really one there''? There must have been becaiuse: I remember it; the fuel tap remains 'on' regardless of the position it I turn the lever to, and fuel is leaking from behind the lever itself indicating it is not seating properly; and, as someone who has now restored two early to mid 70's Yamaha (road bikes) and have parts books for both, I know for a fact old Yamaha parts books have been known to leave items out.

Does anyone know the part number for this as my local friendly Yamaha dealer cannot help me without that magic number.

Thanks for any assistance.

I will look in my A/B parts book later on tonight and see if it is missing there too. Meanwhile here is another way to get that part

You could try this one as it fits a lot of Yamahas. Part number is clearly shown.

Or this one from UK

Looking further the XT500 may have larger holes than the TY.

the number is the same in both my TY250C and TY250A/B parts books and is 137-24523-00 and the description is "valve"
It's on page 61 of the TY250C parts book

Thank you all for your help and useful links. David is right, its in the book. This is a good example of how when you get I flustered and down on myself for being so silly that you don't see things that are in front you, like the fact the part is indeed listed.

Thank you all.
