i saw some one posted a trick with ty 250 b clutch lightening technique. they had removed 3 springs (good n light) but then it slipped at a trial. they were trying a 2 spring removal- just curious if this worked. my clutch is all or nothing action. i will replace clutch cable with nylon sleeve to help, but dont want to play around with extending clutch actuating lever length at this stage. could anybody help with my request?

Re: ty 250 clutch lightening technique
That was me that tried the three springs and it slipped a bit at a trial when flat out in third gear up a hill and hit a bump.
I later discovered that there was no slack in the cable when the motor was hot. I want to try it out again under similar conditions but with the clutch adjusted right before I try four springs.
About your all-or-nothing clutch, what are you comparing it to? All the Jap trials bikes have a relatively narrow clutch engagement band. If it is self-engaging ie it pulls harder on the lever when you are engaging the clutch, you need to do some work removing the grooves from the basket fingers.

thanks Dave,
the clutch isnt self engaging (pulling harder on the lever), and i checked the basket fingers for wear recently when doing the crank seals. i might try the 3 or 4 spring idea, but if your trying out your 3 spring mod again at a trial please let me know how it went.
Cheers K

Re: ty 250 clutch lightening technique
OK kevste I gave that clutch a good hammering at the trial and it went fine with the three springs.
No probs in the sections using first and second gear. After the finish I went for a ride in the open so I could really try it out. Riding in third gear at jogging speed, pull clutch in, full throttle, let revs rise to about 5000, clutch dump no probs (except for trying to manage the attitude of the bike). Then tried same at a higher starting ground speed when dumping clutch still no probs. Then tried fourth gear repeating the tests. Still no probs. Didn't bother with top gear.
I'm sticking with three springs.

Re: ty 250 clutch lightening technique
thats great to hear,
i also had mine in a trial at weekend. did ok for starters, but did last 2 laps with no clutch (snapped cable). i wouldn't care but it was all good and lighter than normal after some lube.
