03 Sherco has no spark

Post by Stu »

Ive had some probs with the Sherco yesterday. I had the bike going well a few days ago started after a couple of kicks, then went to check it over yesterday and tried to start it...no go. tried a new plug, nothing. Ive had the flywheel off to check the crank key, but its all there. I took off the kill switch(aftermarket)and all connections under the tank are dry and clean. No sign of any crimped or chafed wiring.. even the new plug cap is good!
I have no idea what has happened, but its very frustrating.

best to get a multimeter and then go to your nearest library and borrow a manual for any bike or even a lawnmower, and it will tell you how to check each part that might stop the spark.

The trigger on older Sherco's is a common cause of ignition problems, full details of how to test here: http://www.uk-motoplat.com/testing.html

thanks I'll try that soon. Both the coil and stator are not quite 12 months old, the bike has had little use in those 12 months.

I went through all the wiring looking for corrosion, and as I was putting the tank on I dislodged a wire..mmm it was just sitting in the connector..ok interesting. I put on a new connector and it fired up 2nd kick! I had a 1/2 hour ride round the front yard without any problems!
Thanks all for your help.

Hey stu,
Shouldn't you wait till your leg is better before you start riding this?
