Trials on an electric bike

Inspired by @noobmeister's post about "electric stuff": http://www.trials.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=8767#p31274

I'm curious to know if electric bikes have had much market traction in Australia or overseas? I saw demo gas gas models at the Aussie Titles but haven't seen any riders in Victoria riding them at events yet?

- Is this because there are no mention of them in the MOMS and are therefore not allowed to compete?(http://www.ma.org.au/fileadmin/user_upload/Documents/MOMS/2013_MoMS_Files/2013_MOMS_VERSION_2/CHAPTER_23_29JAN.pdf).
- Is battery technology/cost making them prohibitively expensive?
- other reasons?

I'm happy with my current bike, but I'm interested to know if anybody has purchased an electric trials bike and what your experiences are..
