So... Perhaps not quite a basket case, although there is an accompanying box of bits, here is my first foray into clapped out non running trials bikes. I could not resist at NZ$104 even if it is only for parts for my son Ethan's bike: https://trademe.co.nz/1121528748

Hello everyone,

TerrY, the piece on the left is fresh out of the sand casting mound. It is the first attempt at this piece and I had only just cut off the feed in tube but didn't get a chance to clean it up any more, so it has left that small tag on the bottom right hand side.

If I get a chance before the weekend, I may clean it up a bit more.

Jools, sorry to leave you hanging, been too busy to Reply!

OK, So why is a :montesa hanging out of a tree? Good question and I still don't know the answer, however Queenslanders have a wicked sense of humor, perhaps it's a little TOO MUCH vitamin "D"? But that is how I first layer eyes on it at night, I snapped a photo and posted here first light, check the time line. A little research revealed the :QLD: owner and after a little negotiation, I swapped my Cane Toad for the :montesa , just to reiterate, we were in :QLD: so I thought I negotiated Well!

Thank you to all involved in another excellent TY Challenge, superb sections and smiling faces Everywhere!

26 TYs is a new record, can't wait until next year...............

Re: Basket Cases Montesa 242 bare frame weight

Post by Greg Harding »

Hi Everyone,

Finally I have had some time to have another look at the :montesa 242 and get an accurate bare frame weight:

8.6 kg, so it is 100 grams lighter than the modified frame I posted photos of previously, but no where near as light as the swingarm:
