Victorian Recreational Licensed Trials Bikes

Post by Dr Peter »

So, admitting up front, I also go trail riding with AMTRA (look it up).
I do that on a DT175 Yamaha chook chaser (it's a nostalgia thing for me) but everyone at AMTRA rides enduro bikes, so I am struggling.

However I would love to consolidate my bike fleet. And trials is what I try to do most.

Are there any 'trials' bike that are fully registered or comply with Victoria's 'recreationally registered' status? That might embarrass some of these enduro hoons?

Sharpie,
Do you mean the bike isn't being used or the fact that it is rec registered isn't being taken advantage of?

Hell Team,
Phil W. has already given me the heads up about this bike. It's a beautiful looking thing.

I have just paid the renewal of the rec rego so that's all good but time is just not on my side when the weekend comes around, oh and being a Queenslander the weather down here is just crap too.

Was unaware of the Sherco/Scorpa possibility.
I was aware of the X Rides.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Be careful there Peter, as motorcycle importers we can bring in a homologated version if it has gone through ADR (either low volume or full compliance), it is illegal for an importer in Australia to bring in the European homologated version if it hasn't got plate approval.
If say "Joe Blogs" importer brings in with his regular trials bikes a homologated version (it has the road gear, head light, blinkers, horn etc etc) but he has no plate approval for that, then he/she is liable for some very hefty fines, and may find it difficult to bring bikes in in the future if caught.
Trials bike manufacturers make two versions, the homologated road version for Europe, and the non homologated export version. When we import bikes we sign forms stating our bikes are for "OFF ROAD USE" only, and do not have road gear, or road approved tyres etc etc.
Or as is the case with the Gas Gas CONTACT we bring in the homologated bike with plate approval and full ADR. The plate approval takes quite some time to achieve and every VIN (chassis) number is in the Road and Transport system.
If you presented a road going version without a VIN record both the importer and the owner could hit a pretty serious hurdle.
Check the regulations and make yourself aware of the laws before purchasing any "homologated" bike. It might be kosher if you were in Europe, but it could be a headache here if it doesn't have plate approval.
