Good luck to you too Stu, Post Classic can sometimes be a little tough for clubbies but its the nationals so the sections have got be set to take points from the big boys.
I ride Vets in WA so i'm happy throwing myself over the bigger stuff especially with all that twinshock groundclearance, the little TY's a bit light at the front on those hill climbs though.
Quick one for David have you fitted an electronic ignition to a TY before? and if so is it worth it?

No I haven't fitted one to a Yamaha.
Performance
The way my TY twinshocks perform is so far ahead of my riding capabilities that I would be seriously kidding myself if I thought an electronic ignition would make any difference to my riding results or enjoyment.
Reliability/maintenance
Despite being on its second or third con-rod and (lost count of how many) pistons, my hot rodded TY175/205 has the same ignition points it came with new in 1975. Same for the condenser, stator, HT coil, HT lead and plug cap - and it runs like a dream. My TY250A has never had anything done but cleaning of the points from new and my other TY250s have not needed anything done apart from periodic cleaning of the points in the time I have been riding them (about 9 years).
From a maintenance perspective, an electronic ignition would probably save about a hour of workshop time per year per bike (cleaning the points and checking the timing twice per year).

Reason I ask is at my 175's first outing two weeks ago she would run great for an hour then just die, once left for 15 mins she ran great again....
She appeard to be running hot so maybe its running lean?? I took the flywheel off and cleaned up the points and reset the gap so i'll see how she holds up for the nats...
I havn't had time to test her yet so if she's not fixed I'll be the one taking a 15 minute break every hour
Keeping the thread going am I allowed to change plugs from a NGKB5ES to a NGKB6ES or would this go against me in a protest

Howdy Y'all,
Does anyone actually read their MoM??

And I quote:
23.5.0.1 The eligibility and dating of Classic motorcycles shall be considered in terms of major and minor components and the period of the motorcycle shall be the period of the latest major component.
23.5.0.2 Major components are:
a) All engine and gearbox external castings,
b) Frames,
c) Brakes,
d) Wheel hubs,
e) Forks, and
f) Carburettors.
23.5.0.5 All other components shall be considered as minor components.
23.5.0.6 Minor components may be modified or updated provided that they remain visually compatible with the period being depicted.
Don't TY's come with a glow plug anyway? If you're running any form of sparkplug I will protest you!
So unless your new sparkplug looks different to the sparkplug that originally came on your bike, you should be OK...
Cheers,
Your friendly neighbourhood Eligibility Scrutineer,
Scorps
