Add Two More To The Family

I picked these up from the courier in Sydney today. If you had been reading the last issue of just bike magazine you would have seen this baby for sale. They came all the way from Innisfail QLD.

Normally a bike transporter would charge $630 to $700 per bike. The wreck is hardly worth that let alone paying double for it. Through the helpfulness of the previous owner and some shopping around I got both of the bikes down here within 7 days for a total of $370.00. I think I am more excited about that than getting the bikes.

Once the QLD plates are gone and registered in NSW this one will be going to my Dad's garage. It's for him.
I mean, really... Why would I want a two TY's when I have an RL?

I just took the TY for a ride. It's freakin unreal! The electrics are like a 12V bike. The blinkers and horn are spot on. The battery is tops and it does the easiest wheelies.
I must say, I knocked them before I tried one. However, I find the RL(M) lighter than the TY(B).

Hi my name is Tom, I'm from Adelaide.
I've just joined after buying my first trials bike...a 1982 or 1983 (not sure yet) Italjet 350T, it was advertised on here a while ago and after riding my mates, I really wanted one.
This is it as I bought it, dusty and...used!
Good points: Well restorable, most original parts are there and in excellent condition including headlight, tail-light and switch block and heaps of other bits. Runs and rides pretty well but is very dirty and has done quite a bit of work.
Bad points: Rear section of the frame is bent slightly, which has caused damage to the muffler and one of the (non-original) marzocchi rear shocks which is leaking milky watery oil. Suspect small end bearing in motor, 3 decent dents in the header pipe.
Plans: Restore it...ride it! It won't be concours, but will have new plastics and I'll hook up all the electrics again. I can;'t wait - these things are uber-cool!!!

I'm planning to hold a small twin-shock trials event at my family property near the Barossa Valley when the bike is finished.

Cheers,
Tom

** One thing I learnt very quickly about these bikes - they have insane compression even for a big bore two-stroke, and even for what appears to be a well used engine which is believed to be on original piston/rings...

Tom, thats a nice looking Italjet and I'm sure you will have a ball riding it.
The bit about kickstarting it reminded me of my 348 Montesa (which is only 310cc). It starts first kick all day but still the kicking is easily the most tiring thing about riding it in a trial.

Thanks David, yeah I'll be trying my absolute best not to stall it!! It does have a nice low first gear, and these things have a 6 speed gearbox which is cool.

Awesome.... I remember as a kid reading books about trials, and Italjet was The One for me.
Maybe it was the green! :-D
All the best with the restore.

Thanks Keith, yeah the green certainly got me! The factory ones look even better!
That and they're just a bit different and a bit of an oddity in Australia.
I've got pretty much everything except the speedo and cable, new plastics coming from UK.

The eventual goal...so cool

Gday Tom
Looks like a pretty good find there.

Not often that you find one of these, especially in good condition AND complete!

If you need a hand with getting your twinshock event up and running, just give us a oi
and we'll be only to glad to help in any way we can.

Btw what club are you a member of??

Cheers
