Tyre Tubes for Twinshocks.

What do people recommend ? I recently fitted Michelin ultra heavy tubes to the IRC's on my twinshock, I think it was over kill and should have kept them aside for the enduro bike. Their wall thickness is 4mm and they are a bastard to install, is just standard duty or heavy duty tubes what twinshock riders would recommend ? I'm also keen to hear what people think of the IRC tubed tyres, rear in particular, I find mine to provide good traction but feels very squirrelly and squirmy suggesting weak sidewall construction, just doesn't feel as planted as the Michelin x11 tubeless on the GG. What other tyre options do we have for tubed twinshocks ?

Hi Rod. I use Michelin X11 tubeless on my Sherpa. With a tube in them. On the Akront rims they tend to not stay seated on the rim though. I have had IRC tubeless on it at one stage and I found I had to run 5 to 6 PSI in them or else I got pinch punctures and they felt really squirmy. Graham.

IRC 4.00-4.50 x18 tube is perfect for a rear trials tyre
If you run an IRC tube rear tyre yes you do need to run a slightly higher pressure than with an X11, but at that higher pressure they work extremely well.
If you can get an X11 to stay on the rim bead seat at low pressure they are not as fussy with tyre pressure as the IRC. I use both IRC tube type and X11 on the rears of my twinshocks and there are only some rim profiles that the X11 with stay on at low pressure without modification of the rim. The TY250A rear rim is wider than most and also has a wide bead seat and they are good for X11. I also have a TY250D rim that I have grooved the bead seat on which also works well with an X11
Have a look at the Tubliss device which works for any of rear trials tyres on any rim. They are $150 each and reusable. There are videos to show you how they work. They are a small, semi-rigid inner tube that runs at high pressure and jams the tyre against the bead seat, and weigh less than a normal tube. They were designed to prevent impact punctures, reduce heat build-up and reduce mass in MX and desert racing applications, but also solve the twinshock riders dilemma (at a price)

I have been running tubliss on two rims for quite a while now and love them. No pinch flat problems.
But as mentioned they comes an a price and are only really justified if you are hitting stuff hard and have ruined a few tubes with big pinchs.
