Gas Gas TXT Pro 2007 clutch fluid

Post by bikerpete »

Can someone confirm the clutch fluid for a 2007 Gas Gas TXT Pro please.

My bike has red "Gas Gas" caps on both brake and clutch. The clutch MC has a small reservoir. Under the cap is a green diaphragm.

I think this will be mineral oil, but most posts talk about black or green reservoir caps, while mine has red caps.

Thanks.

when in doubt, put a small amount of the clutch fluid onto your fingertip, if it doesn't wash off with water, then its mineral oil..

Red caps - its possibly got aftermarket caps on it. it should have the below Master Cylinder on it

2007 Pro is a mineral oil system.
Use DOT 4 Brake fluid in the brakes reservoirs front and rear, but use Mineral Oil only in the clutch Master Cylinder reservoir and line.
Gas Gas use a mineral oil clutch system (like KTM, TRS, JTG and Vertigo do as well) for a very good reason. The Clutch slave unit is mounted on the inside within the clutch/transmission area. If the seals failed you only loose mineral oil into the transmission (doing no damage). If it was a DOT4 system that would run the possibility of getting brake fluid into the transmission and damaging seals and corroding parts as brake fluid has a tendency to do.
All Gas Gas Trial clutches on TXT Pro, Racing, Raga Replica, Factory Replica and GP's have been Mineral Oil since 2004.

Paul are you sure about it being 2004 and on TXTs needing mineral oil in the clutch?
I was under the impression that my 2002 TXT Pro needs mineral as well.

Hi Jools , Yes I am sure. The first Gas Gas Pro motors (2002<) had a DOT4 system.

Gas Gas then introduced Mineral oil systems in later 2003 and 2004. (These used a green Mineral oil lip seal and an O Ring on the slave cylinder)

Most earlier DOT bikes (2002 and 2003) were converted over to the later model Mineral oil systems by their then owners.

Lift off the Clutch slave piston and a DOT 4 bike will have a black lip seal and O Ring, Mineral Oil bikes of that period used a green lip seal for visual differentiation.

Later model Gassers now use 2 x O Rings and no lip seal.

THX THT, - I need to check if mine's been converted for Mineral -that's what I've always used, but my clutch would never hold pressure for very long, maybe I should have been using DOT.
Cheers.

Thanks for all that.

I figured the green seal was the key indicator, and my next step was the taste test (joking).
My son has a 2005 Rookie with DOT4 fluid so I guess it was a bit of a staggered transition amongst the less common models.

Now to steal the Clake off my son's Rookie and convert it to mineral oil. :-)

Rookie motor never had mineral oil clutch. Didn't need it (reason described above). All Rookies and Cadets DOT4
