Oil... water... ?

Post by S.E.Lucas »

Bike: 00 Sherco 290

My friend was going to change my oil so he could practice on my bike while I went to Qld for 2 weeks and he said there was no oil in there and that it poured out when he put some in and rode it down the street.

I have just filled my bike up with 450ml of oil (i think that's right) and rode down the street and it seems to be coming from the breather pipe thing that comes out near the shock... and it is milky grey. Not a few drops but more like running.

I think there is water in the oil which means that there is a problem with the motor but would this make it come out of the breather hose? Also what would be a likely problem making water go in there? I haven't ridden in any water and the bike hasn't been washed for a few months

I'm just looking for some ideas before I go and pull the whole bike apart... which I'll probably do anyways.

Anything I should do to it while the bike is in pieces? I'm going to do all the bearings while I'm at it.

Alright, thanks... I hope my bike isn't hurt too badly :(

Once I get this sorted then all three of my bikes will be working again

I'll go and have a play with the shock linkage while I wait for tomorrow.

both of the seals on the water pump may be broken and the water pump could be pumping coolant into the gear box therefor pushing all the oil out and filling the gearbox with coolant. But id say someone whith a sherco could tell you what the problem is.

Hi Lukey,

I think there's only one seal on the 00.

Please let us know what Howard says. This sounds nasty stuff :(

Good luck.

There is only one seal on mine.

All up it'll be about $60 for parts and I'll do the work myself.

It's not too much of a problem, it's just a pest because I want to ride it and haven't been able to do so for a while now.
