gas gas question.

Post by yoda »

Hi all,
Needing a bit of help..
I have a gas gas 280, and have split the airbox join(the bit where the two halves are glued together) and am having trouble finding the right stuff to stick them back together.
Tried some butyl based stuff(bit like silicone) which held good for about 30 seconds once i started riding!
If anyone knows what i should try it would be much appreciated..
Thanks!

Hi Yoda,

You might want to see my post on TC

I've got a small job on the an 02 GG airbox. And I should be able to have a go at this tomorrow. So I'll let you know how it goes.

Drakey...I'm a bit confused... what has this got to do with fixing a GasGas airbox? #-o ....every bike is breakable in a Trails world

Sorry Yoda. I had to work on a mates Beta yesterday. So I didn't get round to the GasGas. Just give me a few more days.

No worries Neo, will keep an eye on your T.C post.
This must have happened to someone before... the two halves are just glued together and look like it wouldn't (and didn't!) take much force to split them..
Anyone?

Yoda
Have you not tryed a epoxy glue like arildite?I always have some kicking around .I have glued up all sorts of things with it. The 5 minute stuff is very good .I would be suprised if it did not fix it.And you can lay it on very thick and cover a inch or 2 either side of the join a give it more integrity.Hope that helps Good luck
Later Drakey
PS Neo sorry about that .They did tell me you are easyily confused

Anthony, thought about something like that but it needs to be a flexible join otherwise it will crack.
Bought some stuff last night called Silkafix(i think) from Autopro and they tell me it is the go.. Supposedly use it to hold bits of cars together. It does look like to original stuff so might be a winner.
Will let you know how it holds in case anyone alse has the same thing happen!

The Sikaflex(checked the name) seems to have done the job, so far so good anyway.
I put the bike together last night and had a quick ride, it seems to be holding well.
I guess time will tell!
Thanks for the ideas chaps...
