Biker Planet Singles

Post by Raddy »

Hi all,
This is most likely a question for Keith or anyone else associated with the sponsorship ads for this site. Is it just me, or has a new ad started appearing on the main index page of this site?
I have the Trials Australia website set as my home page i.e. each time I log onto the internet, it pops up first.
Why is it that we need a Biker Planet singles ad (sponsored by Google) on the front page of this forum. Has anyone else found it a bit off-putting? At the risk of being called a wowser  , I don't believe it's in the spirit of a family-friendly site. Is there some reason that this ad has recently appeared?

Why don't you just set the "board index" as the page that pops up. Just go to "favorites" then "add" on your computer. I don't get that ad on mine.

Hi Raddy,

That ad is a part of the Google adsense service. Google delivers ads to that space on the page, and it does so based on the relevance of the content on the rest of the page to the market that each advertiser is trying to reach.

Ie. it's all done automatically. Sometimes you will get that ad, sometimes text ads. Generally an advertiser has a budget for a campaign, and when the budget runs out, the ads stop appearing.

That said, I can elect not to have certain ads delivered.

What do people think?

Regards
Keith.

I wouldn't have commented about this except you asked.......

Firstly, I'm assuming that advertising helps to bring this site to us free of charge, and so I'm quite prepared to see, and fully support advertising in general on the site, and there is no shortage of good appropriate examples already here, which are relevant, and only controversial in as much as whether I should pay to fit such things to my bike, or get that particular new one. (no great moral issues there)

I first noticed that particular ad a while back and I thought at the time it was a bit odd to see it there. I must admit I haven't bothered clicking on it to see where it takes me, but my guess is that it probably wouldn't be something you would call wholesome. I'm not at all offended by it, or even put off a bit, but I did think it was not really in the spirit of a family friendly site representing a family friendly sport.

To put it another way, I believe that if the ad offends one member here, then that's one member too many to be put off by it.

But either way, I don't feel strongly enough about it for it to affect my use of this site.

OK I will admit it, I tried the link.

I entred in the details for a search and it wouldn't work. Because I need instant gratification like a four year old I did not persist to see if I could get it to work. :?

I keep telling my wife she is worth while keeping so the site doesn't realy interest me other then a bit of fun. :P

I don't have any problems with it at all, the site looked pretty harmless what I saw of it.

Pfttt........you guys are obviously not using Firefox as your web browser.

It automatically prevents popups and has a built in online spell checker, apart from the numerous features that IE doesnt have. Get with it fellas, its free to download!

The advertisers have a budget a pay per click, so if we all click on each time we visit Trials Australia the advertiser budget will be used up and as he has not received any sales he will stop doing it. As a bonus his money ends in the TA coffers.

I do use Firefox as my browser and was able to block the image that was being displayed for the ad by simply right-clicking on it. Now all that appears is a text listing for the same ad with a hyperlink. I don't have a problem with it being there as a simple text listing. It's all good now. :D
