Denman MC Twinshock Trial 1 Nov 2009

Post by David Lahey »

I've just uploaded some photos taken at last Sunday's Denman MC Trial.
It was a great weekend at the Sykes property at Martindale. The weather was perfect, the recent rain had made everything green and lush, and the atmosphere was fantastic with people helping each other to keep bikes going.
I went for a 34 hour there-and-back road trip with my riding buddy Mark Casswell from Childers so we could look at a 280 SWM that was for sale at Maitland. As you can see in the photos Mark bought it and rode it in the trial.
Sorry but I could only take static photos and some bikes turned up after my camera was put away.
One treat for me was watching Toby and Michelle Coleman riding Twinshock. I had never seen a M198 Sherpa T being ridden so well before.
Another treat was to see Mal Chapman's twinshock trials bike collection. It's great to have someone like Mal to use as an example for when people think I'm crazy for having a few twinshock trials bikes to choose from for a trial. It makes me look well controlled.
Another treat was to meet and ride with so many people who share a love of old trials bikes.
Another was riding some of the trial with Captain Karl Chaos, and Bultaco Bob's stories about his postie bike challenge ride. I had better stop now or I'll go on all night
Anyway have a look in the photo gallery

Hey David,

Was great to meet you and Mark prior to the Denman trial, good to see photos of the machinery, wished I was there.

How did Mark go on the SWM?

Steve.

Yes you missed a fun ride. Mark fitted the bars from his TY175 to the SWM and had a ball. SWM went well and Mark went well too once he became accustomed to riding it.

G'day Dave

Great effort to come down and ride with us, glad you had a good weekend. It 's a privilege to watch the likes of Mal, Toby yourself and Steve ride. As we've said before many times and once again after this weekend, you just can't blame the tools.......the drink maybe.......but not the tools.

Catch up next time

Regards

Andy

Now that I have seen the pics Paul posted of the lines Mal & Toby were ridding, I wished I was there ridding even more so. Mid to late next year I will be back on deck.

Hi Andy,
How is your TLR going? did you ride it at Denman? mine is getting a bit of bike bling fitted to be ready for next year. Don't want to reveal too much. Is Cameron still ridding the TY, when he moves to a bigger bike you should let me know.

Hi Steve

Jeff told me you have invested in some chemicals and have taken up chemistry projects !! :D

I rode the 200 last weekend with the new rockshox and slimline tank which I got from UK in July. It's going well and it suits me better than the 250 that I got from Toby's Dad.

Cam is still on the 80'..I think we'll keep it for now although he's nearly ready to go to a slightly bigger frame. I might pop round over the weekend, will you be in ??
Or you're welcome to spin round here if you want, I got another toy for the stable from Paul.

Speak soon

Andy

Hi to all the Denman Club People,
Great country, great people, great event [big thanks to the club officers, observers and scorers].
I had a fat time ......it always great to hang out with David and talk and ride twin shocks.
Hope u all have a great X mas and a Happy New Year.
Mark Casswell
p.s. Hey Captain Carl .....you looked good on that David L prepped QLD ty 175 and congrats on your championship. The owner of the bike [A good mate of mine, Adam, who loaned it to me to fix up and ride it] was so stoked on what the TY got up to in NSW........he thought it was very cool.
p.s.s. Hi Steve, The SWM is great .....I love riding it and when I did a bit of maintenance on it .....well....these guys were the king of detail....look fwd to seeing the TLR with all the bling on the sections.
I'd rather be a D grade participant than an A grade spectator....
