Cota 247 magneto crank cover bolts

Post by keychange »

OK - I now know that I should have used loctite but I didn't and now I am 2 magneto cover bolts short for my Cota 247T

These are long (will provide exact specs once I recover the single remaining bolt) about 2 inch with very narrow round flat screw driver heads - nothing else will fit in the deeply recessed crank cover.

Can anyone suggest a local or UK provider ( I will order a dozen just to be sure)

Cheers

Hi Andrew,
Which ones have you lost? The front one I am sure is shorter than the middle and rear one.I might have some spare ones. Did you meet up with Greg on the weekend?

Cedric

Yes I met up with Greg and had a great day - both me an the Cota are a little worse for wear, I think I have bent a rear a shock, snapped the side stand and scratched the tank, all in all not a bad day's work :)

As it turns out once I washed her down i realise I am only missing one screw ( I didn't have my glasses on ) that is the middle screw and I think I can bodge one from the bolt bucket to fit.

Thanks

Andrew

Hey Andrew

Spanish bikes are mostly M6 and M8 bolts - Repco/Super cheap have heaps If you need to cut them down forgive me if this is 'grandma to suck eggs' but run a nut up the bolt and cut down to size with hacksaw - dress the end with a fine file then undo the nut which will run a lead in thread on the the end of the bolt.

Hope this helps

The heads are tiny they position deep ( about 20mm) into the crankcase cover the holes are about 12mm diameter - a better description would be machine screw ( I think I am on the right track) in fact an 8mm slotted cheese head (11mm head) - found it!
