video of OSSA Mick Andrews school from 1970

Post by David Lahey »

Greeves (avid Classic and twinshock trials rider from Spain) recently located this video of a Mick Andrews trials school conducted in New England (USA) in 1970. It is a promotional film paid for by then US OSSA importers YANKEE Motors.
It is quite interesting to see what the riders over there were riding in trials in 1970, including some trials bikes that are very rare nowadays.
I saw a Mk1 Montesa Cota 247, lots of M49 Bultaco Sherpa Ts, a few OSSA Plonkers, a Mk2 Bultaco Matador, some 1960s two-stroke English bikes including some with leading-link forks, Mick's OSSA works bike and at least one Tiger Cub.
I'm guessing the film was produced as part of the publicity effort that would have preceeded the release of the OSSA MAR

Hi everyone,

Great video David, stimulated me to reread the OSSA story in Trial Magazine (section 19).On page 57 there is a copy of the American brochure which depicts Mick Andrews riding down the big rock in the movie at about the four and a half minute mark. Different camera angle but a good photo with onlookers suitably impressed! After watching all the gleaming new machines, I went and had another look at my M49 and I don`t think it would take too much to get it going! A few projects need to be finished first (ie getting the A model ready for the TY Challenge).

I was fortunate to witness his riding skills first hand back in '75 when the Gold Coast Motorcycle Club hosted him for a demonstartion at their Cedar Glenn property just in behind Nerang. Awesome display both in riding skills, and physique I might add, keeping all riders and their girlfriends equally interested, but for varying reasons, for hours. I seem to recall he rode the 80 in some sections that the "A" graders of the day struggled with yet he continually cleaned. No need to say that those were the good old days when veiwing all the safety gear worn for the period!
