RL250 Sprocket covers / Matrix Motor Sport

Post by i-moto »

Hello chaps,

I'm about to start putting my RL250 back together =D> and have a couple questions.

1. Are there any other sources anyone knows of other than Matrix Motor Sport for new / reproduction sprocket covers for the old RL? Incidentally, there is a NOS one on ebay at the moment! I'll chuck a bid on it but fear it will skyrocket in price.

2. Has anyone bought anything off Matrix Motor Sport recently? I've been emailing him but am not getting a reply.

3. Finally, are there any domestic suppliers of rear sprockets other than Matrix or BJ Racing? I already have the spacer - is there another Suzuki sprocket that would fit and be more readily available? My only issue is the price with postage of getting one from the states.

Thanks and Regards,
Tom

You can buy any rear sprocket you want - custom-made or off-the-shelf through Australian motorbike shops who are associated with John Titman Racing, based in Brisbane.
I think Greg Harding on these forums made some replica RL sprocket covers

Thanks David, unfortuantely I've been in contact with John Titmans and they don't do and RL250 sprockets - they said Talon list a dished sprocket but only in 43 tooth which is way too small.

Any other suggestions?

I've touched base with Greg re the sprocket covers.

If you have sprocket spacer, I would suggest you buy a blank sprocket of the correct size, and have it machined to fit your hub properly. Talon here in the UK can help with that, but I would guess blank sprockets would probably be available in Aus? If you dont have a spacer, then measure the amount the sprocket teeth need to be offset from the sprocket mounting face on the hub, and have one made to suit, or obtain one from B&J in the US......................

Thanks for that, was just trying to avoid postage from the states if possible but looks like the BJ's option will be the best way to go.

Gearing on the bike when I bought it was 14/39 - hence the need for a new one!! It must have bee a farm or trail bike haha

I was thinking that you could get a flat sprocket and a spacer from Titmans

I have heard bad things about the Matrix site but have no personal experience there.

See "RL250 520 chain conversion" in this forum for 520 sprockets that will fit. You will still need a spacer. I measured the dish and turned a spacer of that thickness from the old sprocket.

There are several posts by "Takhli44" (me) on the RL in this forum that you might find of intrest.

ThanksTakhli44 - I've read your other posts before with interest.

My other option is trying to find a 11T 428 front sprocket - I'm trying to track one down now.

Found one on ebay that says it fits RL250 and 325 and also KX125 1994-2007, but this is likely a 520, yes?

I'm trying to avoid the 520 conversion if possible.
