Hey all,

When installing a new throttle tube (lets say Domino plastic) is lube required and if so, what type (lithium, dry grease, etc.) would you recommend? Also I maybe totally wrong but is it possible to run them without lube at all?

Possible places to lube, maybe?

• Between the tube and the bar?
• On the inside and/or outside of the throttle wheel?

I have a strong feeling that lube will only collect dust/dirt and cause dragging and will require frequent cleaning, but good to check with those who have more knowledge on the matter! Do you run with or without?

If you use grease yes it eventually dries, gathers dust and gets sticky, but if you never ride in dust it might be a good choice
If you ride in dust a lot then running no lube or a dry lube will work well, but will eventually need cleaning out as the tube and the bar wear away and dust and dirt builds up the buildup can be sticky
Bare aluminium bars are worst because they wear the fastest. Anodised aluminium is better while it lasts. Painted bars are the worst. Chrome plated steel bars are the best (for this issue)
Just to confuse things a bit, some people use aluminium throttle tubes, but I haven't worked out why yet
For my riding conditions, I give the bar end a spray with a dry silicone lube and use plastic throttle tubes

Don't use lube Jason - more trouble than its worth - it's likely to gum up way too quickly and the throttle can stick open when you least need it.
